Fall Finale Update: The Waling Dead

This midseason finale was just what I expected it to be. Things that needed to happened, happened. The group needed to find their way back to each other and we got that in the end. I was neither shocked nor upset at who died because I saw it coming (Olivia) and wanted it to happen (Spencer). Now, I'm really excited about what's to come.

As for the season so far, I'm not too upset by it. I know some people thought it was slow and boring. Well, yes it moved slowly and there wasn't a lot of action, but that premiere was brutal and emotionally exhausting. I am grateful that they took their time to get back to the high intense action. It gave me a chance to recover. Plus, I think the job of the first half was to build a foundation for what's coming next. They needed to do some worldbuilding, and I'd rather them take their time introducing each new community than rushing it and having us wonder who in the world these people are. I really think there is a reason they're doing all of this and I think we'll all understand it in the end.

I still stand by my theory that it's going to take a mass mutiny to take down Negan. The first half showed the group that they can't do it alone as individuals or as an individual group. Now it's time to plot and plan.
I don't think that Negan will be dead by the end of the season. That is going to take awhile. Here's how I think it will go down. Maggie will be instrumental in convincing The Hilltop to fight with the group. Somehow they will learn about King Ezekiel and the Kingdom; whether they just come across their members or Morgan finds them. Either way Morgan will convince them that the group can be trusted. I think the community Tara found will come back into play as well. Once they get the numbers I think they will/should start turning Negan's people against him which won't be hard. We've seen the harsh conditions they live in and people already don't like it (especially his wives). Even Dwight seems to be over Negan. Once they do that they'll be able to take him down from the inside and the outside.
As for the guy in the strange boots, I'm hoping he's an ally. Maybe it's Heath because we have no confirmation that he's actually dead and how awesome would that be?!
Do you guy have any theories?

Fall Finale Update: This is Us, Insecure, Pitch

I never intended to watch this show, but I heard so much about the pilot that I just had to. That episode hit me in the feels and I haven't been able to stop watching. I love that we get flashbacks, and I think that writers are doing an amazing job. My favorite scene so far was the one when Randall and his dad went to the karate class. It really brought on the tears! I'm a little upset the finale ended the way it did. Why is it that when everything is going great, something tragic has to happen? I thought "nothing bad happens on Christmas eve." The only good thing is that we don't have to wait until next fall to find out what happens next.

Insecure was everything that I expected it to be. I'm a huge fan of Issa Rae and her work so I new it wouldn't disappoint. I've longed for a show about Black woman sisterhood and this show gives that to me. Plus it's real, it's raw, it's honest and I am grateful for that. The only thing that shocked me was Lawrence doing what he did in the end. I don't blame him for leaving her but did he have to hit the first girl that was thirsty for him?! What do y'all think about that?

Who would've thought that I would like a show about baseball? Surely not me, but I love this show and I'll be really upset if it doesn't get renewed. Let me tell you all the wonderful things about this show. One, the female lead, and really all the women on this show not being stereotypes and being well rounded characters. Two, the fact that Ginny's teammates aren't pigs but big brothers who are super supportive of her. Three, Ginny and Blip's relationship, Ginny and Evelyn's relationship, and Blip and Evelyn's relationship. Four, the fact that they showed Ginny struggling with her anxiety, realizing she has a problem and having her get the help she needs. How often do we see that with a Black woman on TV? And last but not least, Ginny and Mike. I tried so hard not to let my shipper flag fly with these two but by the fourth episode I wanted them to get together! Those last 2 episode were so rude to us!
The only thing I didn't like was how predictable the finale was. Of course Mike's ex, Rachel, breaks up with her fiance right after Mike finds out Ginny's got a new beau. And of course Mike and Rachel sleep together because stuff like that always happens. Other than that I loved it and will be highly upset if it doesn't get renewed.

Fall Finale Update: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Every year this show gets better and better, and this year was no different. This season we got Ghost Rider and they did a great job with that. Between the backstory and the CGI, everything was amazing. We also had to deal with the new director and the fact that he's inhuman! He hasn't fully grown on me yet. I don't completely trust him and he has the potential to go either way. We shall see with him. We also got Aida, Radcliffe's extra human-like robot he made to be a literal shield for the agents. I knew it was only a matter of time before she turned on him, which brings me to the finale.

First, I'll start off by saying it was a great episode. The focus was all on Ghost Rider and his uncle and that creepy book. But that ending! Seems like Aida is trying to make herself a human. Plus, she's done some to May and it seems like there's a fake May running around talking about sharing a drink with Phil! (Only the real May can do that!) All I know is, Aida messed with the wrong one and when all is said and done, I'm going to need to see May break that robot in half. Then the show can leave May alone for a few years. Between Andrew becoming Lash, her seeing ghosts, literally dying, and now this; she's going to need a break from the traumatic events. She may need a trip to the real Tahiti (with Phil, because I kinda ship it now) after this is over. That's really all I want for the second half. I would say I want to see more Yoyo but they're giving us a whole digital series about her, which is available to watch now. That will be the thing that gets me through this hiatus.
What do you guys think of the season so far?

Fall finale Update: The Flash

This season of The Flash has been such a joy to watch, even though we had flashpoint. So far we got Jessie Quick and Kid Flash, Caitlin got her powers, Barry and Iris are finally in a relationship, and we even got Jay helping out here and there. Cisco also got a great storyline and was fleshed out more. I know a lot of people didn't like seeing sad Cisco who blamed Barry for everything, but he's grieving and has every right to feel that way. Not everyone can be happy-go-lucky all the time. By showing this side of Cisco, they are really making him a fully rounded character.
I also liked the crossover a lot! Usually I only watch The Flash part, but this year I wanted to watch the others. It was great and I hope the musical crossover is just as good as this one.
I really feel like this season is spoiling us, but I don't care!

The fall finale was a typical Flash Christmas episode. Even though they were dealing with the big bad they were still able to come together for a Christmas party at the West's house. The only real tragedy we saw was the glimpse of the future where Savitar kills Iris. But, like Jay said, that was only one possibility in an infinite number of possibilities of how the future could go. So you never know what could happen.
Barry got him and Iris an apartment for Christmas! I mean, we all saw it coming but that whole scene was just perfection.
We also got some backstory on Savitar, Dr. Alchemy and the Philosopher's Stone. That only made we want to know more about Savitar. Like, who exactly is this guy and how did he figure out how to use the stone to become a speedster? Hopefully we'll learn more as the season moves on.

I'm predicting that the second half will be all about Barry trying to protect Iris from the future he saw, and I have a feeling it's going to be great. I just wonder how long it'll be before Barry tells everyone what he saw. I also can't help but wonder if they can fully trust Julian now. I think they should keep him at a distance. I just can't wait for the day when Barry, Wally, and Jessie are all fighting together. It's going to be awesome!

Fall Finale Update: Rosewood

This finale was a happy one. It centered around Gerald's case which was one of the overarching cases of the season. Rosie finally came around to believing that Gerald was innocent and they were able to find the real killer and have Gerald released. He also got to reunite with his daughter. That was pretty much all of what this finale was; them solving this case. Everyone's personal lives were put on the back burner. The only thing we got to see was Villa, maybe, get closer to the coroner  and, maybe, agree to go on a date with him. But, she has so many layers it's hard to tell what happened. There wasn't really a cliffhanger, but the episode did keep me on the edge of my seat. Juju returned and the plot kept thickening, and I kept yelling "plot twist!" It was fun, as it's always fun watching this show.

I've enjoyed the season thus far. It didn't take long for Rosilla to get back to their non-awkward selves after last season. Slade took some getting use to but he's grown on me and I'm liking this new friendship between him and Hornstock. It's clear that it will take some time before Pippy and TMI find their way back to each other, if they ever do.
There were 2 overarching cases in this half of the season; Eddie's case and Gerald's. I'm shocked that they closed both cases by the halfway point of the season. It's kind of like we are getting a fresh start for the second half. The only unfinished storylines we have are with the personal lives of our characters.
For the second half, I'm predicting some friction between Rosie and Villa because they're both occupied with their own love interests. Who know how long that'll last? TMI and Pippy have had their space so maybe they will find their way back to each other. I still haven't seen much of TMI's life separate from Magic City so more of that please. And lastly, Donna. I think she has feelings for Gerald and it'll be interesting to see if they take their relationship to the next level.
What are your thoughts??

Fall Finale Update: Queen Sugar

This is one of the best new shows of the year and one of the best shows on TV right now. From the acting to the directing, the lighting, editing and music; everything was on point every episode. It was especially nice to see such great complex characters on screen. Not a single person was just good or just bad. There were moments when I was side eyeing each character and there were other moments when I was saying "you betta go!" (Well, everyone except Davis. Davis sucks!)

The season finale was just as great as every episode. It really was a season finale done right. So often I see finales that use shock factor as a cliffhanger. And that's can be okay, but not when characters are being killed off or put in danger and we don't know if they'll survive or not. This finale was able to give a great cliffhanger without doing that. Charley was able to her deal despite everything that she had to do to get it (which was questionable), and now they own a mill. But the kicker is that their dad wrote a new will, leaving RA the farm instead of all three siblings. Now we have this possible shift in power. Charley took control of the farm, but now it's RA's and he has ideas that we've seen Charley shut down time and time again. So, will we finally see RA put his foot down? I know that Charley isn't going to give up the power that easily. She'll probably throw in their faces that she basically paid for all of it, but there's a will which is legally binding.
I'm also interested in seeing how Nova reacts to it all. Her relationship with Charley has grown so much and she's shown her so much more love, support and respect. I just wonder if she'll treat RA the same. We all know the two of them have a bit of a rocky relationship because she wasn't there for him when he was in jail like she was with Too Sweet. but now that RA has control of the farm, will she treat him the same way she treated Charley? It'll be interesting and I can't wait.

I do recommend that if you haven't watched this you should start. It's one of those rare shows when everything comes together so well and creates something amazing  If you have watched, what did you think of this season?

Fall Finale Update: Jane the *not* Virgin

[I have no idea what to call this show anymore and I'm so happy I get to say that!]

That finale was so suspenseful! Everyone is doing crazy things. Xo is with her ex who cheated on her and she knew about it! I think I'm going to be like Jane in this situation. I really don't know how to feel. Like, I don't know if I can trust him or not. I just don't want to see her get her heart broken. I am happy that she's living her dream by opening a dance studio.
Rogelio decided that he's going to have a baby with his matchmaker which is insane, but the Rogelio thing to do. I wonder if he'll actually go through with it.
Michael isn't allowed to go back to work yet. It's not like he hasn't stopped working though. All that proves that he'll be miserable until he can be out in the field doing real detective work. I sense a mid-life crisis coming soon.
Rafael is NOT a Solano! That was the big shocker and the end of the episode. But, we can't forget that he's also going to tell the cops about all those stolen paintings his dad has, which could land him in jail! I just want to know of he's a citizen and if he'll get deported or not. I really don't want to wait until January to find out. I mean, this is Mateo's dad! I don't think Jane or Rafael will be able to deal with Mateo's father being out of the country.
I do not trust that Catalina. I never did. It just seemed too good to be true. She showed up too quick and is staying too long to be a habitual traveler. I have theories about her that we'll get into later.

This season is going great so far. So much happened it feels like the season is ending instead of it being half over. I'm glad that Petra is back, but I wasn't expecting her to go back to season one Petra. I wanted Petra who was best friends with Jane to come back. But of course, this show wasn't going to have us wanted Petra back without making her evil when she came back.
I'm glad that Jane is finding out about her family, but I'm a little scared about this whole Catalina situation. Also, Jane is not a virgin anymore!! I love what they're doing with the title cards.
My only wish is that there was more Luisa. She always comes and then leaves for a long time. I just wish that she'd stay around a little longer in the second half.

So, for the second half I have theories. Catalina is definitely playing Rafael and it has something to do with the paintings he has in that storage. I don't think Catalina is Jane's real cousin. I think she's playing her to get to Raf. She probably catfished Jane's real cousin. I wouldn't be surprised if Jane's real cousin showed up and shocked everyone. If Catalina is Jane's cousin, that would be the worst. I don't want Jane to get burned by her own family.
The only other theory that I have is if Rogelio does go through with having a kid, Xo might get jealous. They've teased us with these two all season (maybe all series) long!
What are your predictions for the second half?

Fall Finale Update: Supergirl

I have to be totally and completely honest. That fall finale was pretty meh. In fact, it didn't feel like a finale at all. I think it was because they promised an epic 4 night crossover and the last 30 seconds was the only crossover bit we got. (And they didn't really need to show that because they re-showed it on The Flash.) Also, the only bit of suspense they gave us was that bit with Mon-El at the end, and I don't really care about that. Mon-El has always seemed a little sketchy to me and this gives me even more of a reason not to trust him. I was expecting more of a cliffhanger so I could have a reason to come back. Right now the only thing keeping me is the promise of this Flash musical crossover. If that wasn't coming I would have no problem DVRing this show.

Now on to this half of the season. The only storyline that kept me watching was Alex's; everything else upset me. First, why did they make M'gann a white martian!? I was so excited about Miss Martian, and J'onn having someone to connect him back to his planet and maybe her joining the team, but no. They had to make her his worse enemy, and then they had her infect J'onn and turn him into a white martian. But that didn't last long at all, so it all just seemed like on big waste. Like, what was the point of doing all that if he was just going to get cured in 30 seconds?!
Second, why can't they let James be great? He falls in love with Kara and they get together only for that to be taken away in the premiere. Then he becomes the head of CatCo but he can't even lead his first meeting and when he finally takes control, we don't get to see him in that roll. Then they make him The Guardian but not without Winn telling him multiple times that he can't be a hero because he doesn't have powers. Even when he becomes The Guardian Winn can't stop telling him about how he can't do it. And we barely saw him as The Guardian. I mean they immediately framed him as a killer so he had to get over that before he could do anything more. And if he did do more we didn't see it. Like, why couldn't he come to LCorp and help in the finale? It definitely feels like he's getting sidelined this year. I doesn't feel like he's on team Supergirl right now and that needs to change.
Then we have Mon-El who I don't completely trust. It seems like they brought him in as a love interest for Kara, even though she said she needed time to figure out life as Kara. Was all that a lie so they could break her up with Jimmy or what? I guess we don't really know yet because it seems like Kara doesn't like Mon-El like that. But they left it so vague that it could go either way.

All I know is, the second half needs to pick up if they want to keep me tuning in each week. They haven't done enough to keep my attention yet. I really want to have a reason to watch this show each week but it's not looking good. I need the second half to have more James. I need more of a story with Papa Danvers and I need to know if he's okay or not. I need Cadmus to be a bigger big bad, especially now that Hank is Cyborg Superman and sporting the same face as J'onn. Also, will Superman come back when he finds out there's a cyborg version of himself out there? Lastly, get James back on team Supergirl. Let him tell everyone that he's The Guardian so he can help out more.
What are your thoughts so far?

Fall Finale Update: How to Get Away with Murder

The entire first half of the season we've been trying to figure out who was under that sheet and now we know. Wes is dead. And who killed him a mysery for the second half. I was more shocked then anything when I found this out. I really didn't think it was him. Like, he was crossed off my list long before the episode aired. This was mainly because they showed him at the police station and I thought that meant he was fine. I thought that it was Frank from the beginning. And after seeing how things were playing out, I though Frank would go through with killing himself and that they would decide to burn the house down instead of moving his body. (And there were so many awful things that happened in that house they were better off just burning the whole thing to the ground.) Now, obviously, there's a lot more that went on that we haven't seen yet. Plus, the big twist at the end was that Wes was dead before the fire. I have predicitions that I'll get to later.
The episode was a shocker and it answered one question while leaving us with many more, in true HTGAWM fashion. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and there were a lot of WHAT's and OMG's said throughout.

Now I didn't have much of a problem with the first half of the season. I know a lot of people didn't like the Laurel/Wes and Asher/Michaela relationships, but (for some reason) I did. I also liked the growing relationship between Annalie and president Hargrove. The one person I didn't like was the ADA. I feel like her whole investigation is fueled by her jealousy towards Annalise. Like, she can't be her or beat her, no matter how hard she tries, so she's going to try to ruin her life. That really irked me.

Now for my predictions for the second half. I think it's very possible that the person who killed Wes and the person responsible for blowing up Annalise's house are two different people. I think Frank is definitely involved in all of it, though. He could have been so pissed at Annalise for the way she treated him that he killed the one person who she fought so hard to keep safe and then left him in that house like a gift for Annalise to find. And maybe he chickened out and blew up the house so she would never know. Or maybe he just knew that all the Keating 5 would be at the house, and since they hate him so much, he blew it up to kill all of them. Or maybe the guy Wes framed for killing his father killed Wes and left him at the house like "I know it was you who was behind this so this is what you get."
What theories do you have?

Fall Finale Update: Grey's Anatomy

I will start off by saying that I thought the fall finale was a good episode. Everything that happened was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The storyline with the apartment building manager was interesting, and so was everything that was going on with Alex, and Jo (finally) telling him the truth. It was so frustrating watching Alex decide to give up and take the plea deal, but I knew that they would end it right before he made his final decision. I do wish they showed us what he did because I just want to know. This has been going on for too long and it's time for them to go forward with a trial or not.

Now on to the first half of the season. I'm a little upset by it. I'm upset because they said they were focusing on the originals but everything that happened has been bad. Now we have Webber basically being demoted and Alex on the verge of losing his job forever. I wish there was some good thrown in there with the bad to balance it out.
Also, I don't think they spent enough time on everyone else. They spent a lot of time on everything surrounding Alex's trial, and Amelia and Owen's situation. And their situation was just a reincarnation of what happened with Owen and Cristina. (And why are they recycling that storyline?) I want to know what's happening with Jackson and April. Did she move out yet? Is she still dating? Is he dating? And what about the whole Mer, Maggie and Riggs situation? Is that over with or what? Plus, they let Leah come back, touched on it for an episode and then we barely saw her. I guess my hope is that they spend more time on the rest of the Grey Sloane crew when they come back.

I want that, and I also want to know more about Jo's past. Like, will her husband come back? And can she finally get a divorce? I also want this trial with Alex to be over. I don't want him to go to jail. My hope, and this will probably never happen but, I want Deluca to drop the charges. We all know that Alex did what he did because he was trying to protect Jo. He didn't know what was actually happening and they didn't know what he thought was happening. I know it sucks and Deluca could've lost his ability to be a doctor, but is he willing to take that away from someone else? I'm also interested to see what will come of this Webber situation. Bailey definitely didn't want to do it, but Catherine pushed her to. I can't wait to see how the rest of the board reacts. From Jackson's reaction, it looks like they have no clue what's really going on and I don't think they'll like Catherine and Bailey deciding to do this without talking with them first. And will Webber find out that Catherine is the one behind it all? How will he react to that? Well, we shall see January 19th.
What did you guys thing of the episode and the season so far?

2016 Fall Premieres - The Walking Dead

That was brutal. Probably the most graphic hour of television I've ever watched. We finally know who suffered the fate of Negan's bat and it wasn't a pretty sight. But, not only did we have to watch the gruesome death of not one but TWO characters, we had to watch Negan break Rick down.
First I'll start with who died. The first person we see die is Abraham. Now to be honest, I breathed a sigh of relief at that moment. He wasn't on my list of people who I didn't want to die, so I was okay. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike him, he's just not a favorites list. Then came Glenn (well, Darryl then Glenn). Now that was a moment that I didn't see coming and I was in a serious state of shock many minutes after it happened. In fact, the tears didn't start to come until well after. It hit me late but when it hit, it hit hard. I didn't think they would kill him simply because it was the obvious choice. Everyone who's read the comics let us who didn't know that Glenn dies. Also, they've almost killed him once so I didn't think they would really go through with it this time around. But they did and it was awful. On top of that we had to see Negan toy with Rick and try to break him. It almost didn't work so he almost made Rick cut off Carl's hand. It was hard to watch! I'm pissed and sad but not enough to stop watching. One reason is because I'm a binge watcher and haven't lived with these characters for years compared to everyone that's watched from the beginning. I only just started watching in the beginning of this year so I've only lived with these characters for about 9 months. I really think that has an impact on the attachment I have to this show.
The second reason why I'm still going to watch is because of what I think will come next. I think it's no coincidence that Maggie's first words were of revenge. Even in the state that she's in, she's ready to fight. And I'm not surprised that Sasha stood by her side. These two women have lost everyone. They've lost the people that they were closest to and in most cases they witnessed their deaths. They are going through the exact same thing and I think that they, along with the help of the other women in the group, will lead the charge in a mutiny against Negan. (That's really the only way I see them taking down a guy like that. There's one of him a  bunch of everyone else.) When you think about it, they've killed off two dudes, Rick is in no way to lead, and Darryl is probably off in a makeshift cell right now. It's time for the women to rally together and lead this season. Michonne and Carol have been in this position before, and even Rosita and Tara (when she finds out about Denise) can feel their pain. I don't think that Negan will be a non-factor by season's end, but the efforts of these women will have a major hand in his take down.

All I can say about this episode is that it was gory, sad, and rough to watch. But, they are setting the ground for a new slate, a new order as I keep hearing in interviews. I'm interested in the new characters that we get to see (mainly Ezekial's tiger).
How are you guys holding up? Will you still be watching this Sunday?

2016 Fall Premiere: Jane the Virgin

What can I say about this premiere? It was good. I knew they were going to spend most of their time on Michael since he was shot in the finale. Going in I had a slight feeling (because of Gina Rodriguez's snapchat) that Michael would survive. I say a slight feeling because you really never know with this show. With the way the episode was going, it seemed like Michael wouldn't make it. I mean, they showed flashbacks to the beginning of their relationship and Jane envisioned their whole lives together. If this show was predictable that would've been our cue to start mourning his death. But, this show isn't predictable and Michael pulled through.
The other moments of this episode were spent on Petra and Anezka. Petra was so close to freeing herself and exposing Anezka but, no. She went back to that paralytic state.
The other big bomb drop was that Xo won't keep her baby. I almost forgot that she found out she was pregnant in the finale. She seemed so sure that the baby wasn't Rogelio's but do we really know? And I wonder how Abuela will react to this news because I think Rogelio is the only one who knows. Will Xo even tell her, or Jane? I guess we'll find that out as the season moves along.
In the final minutes of the episode we see that Sin Rostro has abducted Luisa and they're in a submarine somewhere. Who knows how Luisa will get out of this predicament this time.

One thing the show made clear was that Michael and Petra are linked. They were both in the same hospital and while Michael was in life or death surgery, Petra was also in a life or death situation. We saw that Michael pulled through, but because of that Petra is still stuck in the hospital. I wonder if things will flip on its head as time goes on. Like, will Petra get close to freeing herself thus causing something horrible to happen to Michael, again? I am going to remember this because I have a feeling it'll come back later down the road. I just know that whatever happens it won't be anything short of crazy.
What did you guys think of the premiere? Got any predictions for the season?

2016 Fall Premiere: Supergirl

Supergirl is back and picked up right were it left off. Overall, I thought it was an okay premiere. A lot happened and I feel like it would have been better if the storylines lasted 2 episode instead of one.
The finale ended with Kara and J'onn discovering the pod and the premiere picked up right then. So in the 2 days the premiere was we find out who was in the pod, Superman got introduced, Winn got a new job at the DEO, Lena Luther was introduced, Kara figured out what her new job would be at CatCo, her relationship with James came and went, and we got more of a glimpse of Cadmus. And some of it got lost in the sauce. For example, Winn left CatCo. I had to watch it again to catch them mention it. It was brief and there wasn't an explanation. He was just on the team and not at CatCo anymore. Really, the only reason I knew it would happen was because I read it in an article during the hiatus.
I know that the writers were probably excited and wanted to give us as much as the could with this premiere, but I think they should've given us a few things so each storyline could get the amount of time it needed. I feel like they should've addressed the pod, Superman, Lena, and Cadmus in the premiere and left the rest of the stuff for the second episode.

I also feel like they told us a lot instead of just showing it. I also read that Kara was going to be struggling with what it means to be Kara now that she's finally found herself as Supergirl. Instead of showing us that throughout the season she just flat out said it to Clark halfway through the episode. And I figured that her personal life, e.i. her relationship with James, wasn't going to be perfect, but I wasn't expecting it to end so quickly, or at all. This was the one thing that I was afraid would happen and it did. It was the thing that I disliked the most, and it's not just because I ship them. The relationship wasn't given the time it needed to get to that point. They could have shown Kara struggle between her hero life and her personal life. Then she and James could've worked on that together. Now they're back to where they were in the beginning. And it doesn't help that they spent all of last season building up their relationship only to take it away. It also didn't help that it felt like Kara made that decision in about five minutes.

Which leads me back to my point about how they gave us too much and not enough time. I really think that was the downfall of this premiere. The look, feel, and action were great but the storylines were rushed. I'll be watching each week hoping this doesn't last.

2016 Fall Premiere: The Flash

I want to warn you. This will be full of spoilers and probably a little confusing at times. But that's what happens when you have a show with multiple timelines and universes. So if you haven't watched, get on that immediately!

So, flashpoint. Barry changes the timeline once again, as if he's learned nothing before, and stops the Reverse Flash from killing his mother. Obviously there are some changes and they're not all good. I mean, Joe is a drunk bum who doesn't have a great relationship with his kids. Really, the only good things we got to see were Barry's parents alive, Wally as Kid Flash and Cisco finally being rich. From what I heard during the hiatus they weren't staying in this timeline as long as I originally predicted. They wasted no time and got out of there in one episode. I prefer it that way because I think I would have gotten antsy if they dragged it out longer. So in the end Barry, with the help of the Reverse Flash, restores ... no, I can't even say it that. They created another timeline where Barry's parents are dead, but things aren't exactly back to normal. I mean, we all thought that Barry would return back to that moment on the porch with Iris, but no. Joe and Iris still don't have a great relationship so she wasn't there and that hurts my heart. (For like 3 seconds I thought they were going to say that Iris was dead and my heart jumped.)

This premiere was insane, but we got through it and came out probably more scarred than we were before! I have a bunch of questions now. Reverse Flash is still alive and in Eobard Thawne's body, not Harrison Wells'. Does that mean the Wells of this Earth is alive and well and not evil somewhere? Is Eddie still alive? I'm also questioning every relationship because things didn't look so great in that promo! Also, what actually happened in this timeline with Joe and Iris? Are they going to show us why they don't talk? And how much of the stuff in the old timeline that happened between Iris and Barry happened in this new timeline, if any of it happened? And lastly, how much you want to bet Barry goes back in time to stop himself from going back in time to stop the Reverse Flash from killing his mother, thus restoring the timeline we had back in season 2? (Does that make any sense?) I could go on but I'm just going to stop there and watch the season.

2015 Fall Premiere: Pitch - Pilot & The Interim

Pith is about Ginny Baker, a pitcher who becomes the first woman to play for Major League Baseball.
I enjoyed the pilot but I had to give it another episode. From the looks of the promos I thought that this might be better off as a movie, which is why I wanted to give it a couple episodes before I gave it my final verdict. I am hooked. The ending of the pilot left me shook! I figured something was up with her dad but never suspected what actually happened. (I won't spoil it for those that haven't watch yet)
I love the way the pilot episode was filmed. I loved how they made it look like you were watching an actual baseball game. And of course that shot of the ball for that one pitch she had; AMAZING! The other great thing about this show is its flashbacks. They are properly place and give great insight to Ginny's past. They are showing us and not telling us and I love that. This show will obviously be tackling social issues. So far they're doing a good job not making it seem like a PSA. With sports comes commentary and that's where most of the talk about a woman playing a male dominated sport happens. Ginny is also taking on some social issues herself and we saw that in the second episode.

Overall, I definitely have a new show. In future episodes I want to find out where Ginny's brother is. So far, we've only seen him in flashbacks. He wasn't at her first game and she doesn't talk about him. The only guess I have is that when she let him go as her manager/agent he got upset and left. I hope that he's not involved in drugs or anything like that. I also want to see more of Ginny's mom and more about her childhood. Her father really pushed her and used some not okay tactics to get her to play harder. That had to effect her and her family and I want to see that.
A lot of people want Ginny and Mike together, but I don't really care what happens. I do think that have great chemistry. I just wouldn't be mad if they got together and wouldn't be mad if they didn't. Maybe I'll move over to the shipping side once I see more episodes, but we shall see.

2016 Fall Premiere: Secrets & Lies, Quantico

I'm so glad that this show is back with a new case. In this case, Eric's wife has died and of course he is Cornell's number one suspect. Obviously, everyone is suspect but they will definitely be spending a lot of time trying to prove Eric is guilty. The premiere was a great start to the season and I will definitely be tuning in each week. I do have some spoilery theories so if you haven't watch I suggest you do so before continuing to read.
I think it would be too obvious if the husband did it. When Kate died she was pregnant. So if they find out that the baby wasn't Eric's, Cornell will definitely try to use that a motive. I'm hoping none of that happens because it's predictable. I do think there is a lot about Kate's past that we don't know and will discover this season. We already found out in the premiere that she had a child before she was with Eric and no one knew about it. My guess is that whoever killed her knew that and probably didn't want Eric to find out. Eric also has a shady past. He's killed someone before. It must not have been that bad or he'd still be in jail for it. Unless his dad used his connections to lessen Eric's sentence. We also have no idea where Eric's mom is and I'm hoping that comes to the light, too.
What theories do you guys have?

The premiere of Quantico gave me deja vu until the last 20 minutes or so. We see Alex in the mist of a crisis in the present time and she's the only hope in saving everyone. In the flashbacks, she's entering CIA training which is very similar to training at Quantico. Ryan is also there undercover, again. It wasn't until the end that we finally got to see how this season differs from the first. Alex is also undercover with Ryna this time. The trainees are ranked and if you are last, you're out. I think the one big difference is that Alex is at the bottom this year. When she was in Quantico she was the trainee to beat. She basically went from being at the top of her class to being at the bottom in a few months. The CIA training is looking to be no joke. Last year looked like they were having fun with their training and I think this year it will be the complete opposite. As for the terrorist, it's pretty close to last year. It's clear that Alex recognizes one of them and I think this isn't the last.
I wish that this episode didn't give me deja vu but overall it wasn't bad. I just can't wait to get into to everything and find out who's behind it all.
What are your thoughts on the premiere?

2016 Fall Premiere: Grey's Anatomy

Grey's picked up a few minutes from where we left off. In the finale, Alex was in the middle of giving Deluca a beat down and Owen and Amelia were getting married. It came back showing us the immediate aftermath of what Alex did. Mer had to deal with this and the fact that Maggie told her that she likes Riggs even though he's checking for Mer.

This premiere was fast paced and intense. It was a ride. There was a lot of stuff going on between the doctors trying to keep Deluca and his dreams of becoming a surgeon alive, and all the personal stuff that was going on with everyone else as well. Alex's career is on the line and we'll probably be seeing him in court more than in the hospital. I'm sure Maggie and Mer are going to continue to have sister drama. Maggie doesn't want Mer to lie to her, ever, but we'll see how long that lasts. I want them to have a great relationship so I hope Mer keeps her promise. I have no predictions on what will happen with everyone else. I do hope that we learn more about Jo's situation like who she's married to and hopefully she gets a divorce before the season is over.

2016 Fall Premiere: How to get Away with Murder

How to get Away with Murder is back and everything has changed. Annalise and the Keating 5 are back in the classroom. It looks like this season they are getting back to what they came to school to be; lawyers! Annalise is now teaching a clinic where her students have the chance to actually argue a case in the courtroom. So we're seeing some new students; I just wonder if they'll cause some drama between the Keating 5. The interesting thing is that Annalise was barely able to get that clinic. The president of the school came to her basically telling her that she was getting demoted because the Keating 5 were doing so bad in school. I wonder if Annalise and the president will go head to head this season. Of course, there was a big mystery in the end. Instead of knowing who's dead and not knowing the killer, we don't know who's dead or who killed them.

I enjoyed this premiere but it was weird. Things are different and that's going to take some getting used to. The other different thing is that each week we will be seeing who isn't dead instead of getting more infor mation about who the killer is. My guess is that we'll find out who's dead in the mid season finale and find out the killer in the season finale. I have no guesses on who's dead. It could be Wes, of Frank or Nate or someone who hasn't been introduced yet.
What did you think of the premiere? Who do think is dead?

2016 Fall Premiere: Rosewood

This show was on my list of most anticipated shows, so I'm so happy that it's back. The status quo has completely changed for our gang. Villa and Rosie were awkward at first but came around. I was surprised with how quickly they jumped back into things, but that wasn't their choice. Pippy is off living her dream as a singer and we even got to see a glimpse of her in the recording studio. TMI and Mitch are still working at Magic City. Hornstock has been demoted to detective and now has a new "office" in the basement of the precinct. There's a new captain and he is an interesting dude. I can't read him. Lastly, Donna is off trying to save the inmate we saw her with in the finale. It doesn't look like he's her new book, but we're not sure yet.

When I first heard about the changes this show was going through, I got a little nervous. On top of that, this is its second season and I didn't want it to suffer a sophomore slump. But, I was impressed. I like the changes. Everything is bringing new challenges to our characters and I can't wait to see them leap over the obstacles.
So, this season I'm interested in seeing what (if anything) brings TMI and Pippy back together, what Donna is up to really and if Rosie and Villa will get a second chance. Villa and Rosie are investigating her husband's murder and I'm most excited about what will come of that. This was a good premiere.

2016 Fall Premiere: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This season of S.H.I.E.L.D. started off in a very different place from the other seasons. Our team is scattered in all different places. Daisy, well Quake, is off doing her vigilantly thing, May is training new recruits, Fitz and Simmons don't seem to see each other that often, and Coulson and Mack are off doing missions. In fact, Coulson and Mack are the only ones on the team that are still together. All of this is thanks to the new director, who we have yet to see. We don't even know his or her name, but I can't tell you one thing, I don't like him or her.
This premiere episode was all about introducing Ghost Rider and it was an amazing introduction. They went all out with the special effects for him. From the car to his transformation, everything was dope!
On top of all of this Radcliffe has build a human-like robot that supposed to protect our agents but we know that won't last.

I think that this was a solid opening to the season and I can't wait to see more. I know there will be some drama along the way, but our team will be back together again. I hope we see the new director soon. I mean, how long can they drag this out? I have 2 questions. Will Daisy and Ghost Rider team up or become arch nemesis? Also, what is the world was that creepy ghost thing that came out of that box? I seems like it's connected to Ghost Rider but I'm not completely sure.

What did you guys think of the premiere?

Queen Sugar

I have to be honest. These first 2 episodes have left me in awe. Almost speechless. The first episode was aired without commercials and after it was over, it took me about half an hour to get off the couch because I was processing. It was a good feeling to have. I missed having to sit a bit after an episode to digest it all. I missed actually wanting commercial breaks because they gave me a change to breathe. I have been craving something like this for a long time. Everything about this show was amazing. The cinematography was so crisp; every shot was beautiful. On top of that, the acting, the writing, and even the music was phenomenal! Every character is complex and has layers. We got to see Black fatherhood which is something that we need more of on screen. We also got to see 3 generations of the Black men, comforting each other and it was so beautiful I teared up.
This show is really setting the bar for quality television. I can already tell that this show is going to spoil me. I know I'm going to end up comparing all the other shows I watch to this one. And you know what, I don't care. Other shows should be looking at this one and want to get on this level.

All this to say that the first new show of the 2016 TV season is a winner. It spoke to my soul in ways that other shows haven't. Ever. If you haven't watched this show, you need to start and I suggest you find version without commercials. And if you have watched it, isn't it amazing? Let's dissect this show together.

Fall TV 2016: Returning Shows

Here's a list of the returning shows I plan on watching this fall. Plus everything I'm looking forward to. I'll live tweet each show with an asterisk(*) each week. Whether it's when the show is actually live or after through my DVR, depends on my work schedule, but either way I'll be tweeting.

Monday
Supergirl: October 10, CW, 8pm*
  • One of my favorite new shows from last year! First thing I'm excited about is that we're getting Miss Martian and she's Black! This show is definitely lacking Black women (and women of color). So I'm happy that we've got this cast addition and I hope there are more in the future. Second, everyone finds out who was in the pod and we get to see how this affects everything. Third, the female president is coming!!
  • Now for my hopes. I want to see Kara and Jimmy's relationship evolve and not be pushed to the back burner. I have this fear that now that their feelings are out in the open it won't get talked about anymore. Keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't happen. I also hope that the crossovers are good. There's going to be 2 this season. One will be a 4 episode crossover with all the DC CW shows and the other is a musical crossover with The Flash. I want them to be able to pull it off, especially with all this hype.
Jane the Virgin: October 17, CW, 9pm*
  • Last season ended pretty crazy and I can't wait to see what happens next. Everyone's live's seem to be turning upside down and everything seems to be changing. I just wonder how much more crazier can the show get. Also, if Michael lives (and I have a strong feeling he will), I'm just going to have to get used to him and Jane being together. I guess team Rafael is no more, but we shall see.

Tuesday
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: September 20, ABC, 10pm*
  • I'm most excited to see Daisy/Quake and get an explanation on why there's a new director. I also can't wait to see our crew again. I have a feeling there will be some new faces. Also hoping that some old one (Bobbi and Hunter) make an appearance as well.

The Flash: October 4, CW, 8pm*
  • My excitement level for this show is through the roof! I was a bit nervous of what would come since Barry flashpointed in the season 2 finale, but all that washed away when the spoilers started flooding in. It's been said that flashpoint won't last long (probably shorter than my initial prediction). Westallen is coming and so is Kid Flash! My hope is that Kid Flash isn't just in the flashpoint timeline, but makes his way back to the regular timeline. I'm also excited to see everyone in the flashpoint timeline. It looks like there will be completely different versions of these characters and seeing that is one of my favorite things about this show.

Wednesday
Empire: September 21, FOX, 9pm
  • I'm still on the fence about whether I'm going to watch this season or not. For me, this show has crossed to far over the soap opera line and there's only so much of that I can take before I call it quits. I do know that this show will live in my DVR and that's how I'll be watching.

Black - ish: September 21, ABC, 9:30pm*
  • One of my favorite comedy shows. It keeps getting better and better and I can't wait to see what the new season brings. Super excited that Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, The Get Down) has joined the cast!

Thursday (September 22)
Grey's Anatomy: ABC, 8pm
  • I feel really "meh" about this show. I'm not ready to give it up but I" not super pressed about watch it live. This is what happens when another show comes on at the same time on a different channel. I had to measure my excitement for each and this one didn't win. I'm still interested in what happens this upcoming season, I just won't see it live.

Rosewood: FOX, 8pm*
  • I miss this show so much! I miss seeing Rosie and Villa and the rest of the gang on my TV. That season finale left me all up in my feels and I need to see what happens next. I hope they dig deeper into the death of Villa's husband. I also hope that it's not longer before we see Villa and Rosie back in action together. We left them on a rocky note and I don't know how long I can go without their banter in my life. Also keeping my fingers crossed there's sophomore slump.

Superstore: NBC, 8pm
  • Another one of my favorite comedies. The Olympics episode made me want this show back even more! I can't wait to see what the characters of Cloud 9 get into this year.

How to get Away with Murder: ABC, 10pm*
  • This show just gets better and better with each season. I can't wait to find out who shot Wes' father. I have no predictions on that one. I want to say Frank but I have a feeling that it'll be someone we least expect or someone we haven't met yet. I hear that we're diving more into Michaela's backstory this season and that's something that I've wanted for a while now. I also hear we'll see more of the Keating 5 having more of a role in the courtroom and it's nice that there going to remind that these kids are in law school.

Sunday
Bob's Burgers: September 25, FOX, 7:30pm
  • Yes, I watch this show and I love it. I need this family back on my TV!

The Walking Dead: October 23, AMC, 9pm*
  • I spent most of the spring binging this show (thanks to Richonne fans) and I love it. That season finale was so rude! I'm done with hearing theories and predictions on who Negan killed; I just want to see it. I know it won't be pretty but I'm ready. (No I'm not)

Secrets & Lies: September 25, ABC, 9pm*
  • I have to be honest, I thought this show got cancelled. When it premiered I loved it, but I didn't hear anything after the finale. When I found out it got picked up for a season 2 I was so happy. Michael Ealy has been added to the cast and it looks like they've got a whole new case to solve. I can't wait to dive back into this show.

Quantico: September 25, ABC, 10pm*
  • Alex has moved on from the FBI and joined the CIA. I'm ready to see what new case she tries to solve this year. I also can't wait to see what the other members of the FBI are up to now. I just know there's going to be a bunch of new faces and I probably won't know what's going on half the time. If that's the case I just hope there's a flow chart or something that I can follow along with to make it easier.
What returning shows are you excited about this year? Let me know!

Fall TV 2016: New Shows

Here's the list of new shows that I'll be watching this fall. I'm hoping to be able to live tweet at least the premiere. After I've seen 2 or 3 episodes I'll review it. For the Netflix shows I may just review the whole season since all the episodes will be available.

Queen Sugar: 2 night premiere on Tuesday and Wednesday September 6 & 7, OWN, 10pm - trailer,
This show is based off a book that I wish I had enough time to read. The patriarch of the family dies and leaves his sugarcane farm to his 3 children. The kids all live different lives, grew up in different places and are being brought together because of a tragedy. I don't know much this show but I'm assuming there will be some family drama and uncovered secrets.

Pitch: Thursday September 22, FOX, 9pm - trailer, This show is about a woman pitcher breaking into the major leagues. The combination of sports, the Black female lead, and a woman entering a field (pun intended) dominated by men drew me to it.

Luke Cage: Friday September 30, Netflix - trailer, I don't know much about Luke Cage other than what I've seen from Jessica Jones, but I can tell this is the superhero show we've all been waiting for. The cast alone is amazing! And that trailer! I mean, seeing a Black man in a hoodie get shot at and not die is huge and very reminiscent of Blade. I'm excited to binge watch this.

Insecure: Sunday October 9, HBO, 10:30pm - trailer, I've been a fan of Issa Rae ever since my sister told me to watch Awkward Black Girl on Youtube. Finding out she was getting a show was the best news! Now, I don't have HBO but might just invest in HBO Go in order to watch this.

Haters Back Off: Friday October 14, Netflix - trailer, A show from another youtuber (Miranda Sings/Colleen Evans) that I've followed for years. Very interested in seeing what this show will be like.

Planning on watching any of these shows? Let's talk about them!

The Little Prince (Netflix)

The Little Prince is about a girl who's mother schedules her whole life for here. The thing is that there's no place on that schedule for fun or friends. One day the girl becomes friends with an odd man that lives next door. He writes her stories about The Little Prince and his journey back to the rose he loves.

It's an animated movie, so one would obviously think that it's the typical kid movie that has a good message for kids and adults can get some things out of it, too. I don't think that's completely true for this movie. I think it's more for adults, but all age groups can enjoy it. I think the moral of the story is to never lose your childlike spirit.
As adults we often long for the days when we were younger and no bills or any worries. We wish we could go back to "simpler times." Basically there are times when we act like being an adult is the worse thing in the world and the only way we can be happy is if we go back to our childhood. But that just isn't true.
There's nothing wrong with grown up. You grow, learn things, change, experience life. The problem is that we don't remember the things that make us happy. We focus too much on work, and paying bills and getting ahead. This movie teaches us that we have to make room for the adventure and fun of life. Like the quote in the movie says, "growing up is not the problem, forgetting is."

I obviously enjoyed it. It really pulled at my heart strings. All ages will enjoy this and I recommend you watch it. It could change the way you look at life.

Ugly Betty

A long time ago, 14 year old me started a new series called Ugly Betty. Now, 10 years later, I've finally finished the series. I'm also kicking myself for not finishing it back then.
There are so many great things that I can say about this show. One of the things that I really loved was the unique relationships between all the characters. You could put together any combination of characters and each relationship had depth and interesting things about it.
The family aspect was amazing. You could tell that these people really loved one another and would do anything for each other. Even with Daniel's family and all of their drama, they were still able to reconcile and show love to one another.
Betty and Hilda's relationship was a great representation of a sibling relationship. I love seeing siblings on TV. These two fought, they had rough patches, but in the end love prevailed. You could also say the same thing about Daniel and Alexis.
The representation of all different groups of people on this show is something that we are craving to see now. First, the women power. Every woman on this show was a boss who spoke their mind, stood up for themselves and others. They worked hard to get what they wanted and they didn't let anyone stop them from achieving their goals. Even with Wilhelmina and her scheming. She did what she thought she had to to get to where she wanted to be. Second, a Latino family was the center of the show. That's something that we rarely saw back then and something that we rarely see now. Marc and Justin represented the LGBT community. I just feel like with each group represented on this show, we saw them as different, complex people with depth and not the stereotypes that we often see.

I have to talk about how the series ended. I thought it was perfect. In the final episodes, everyone got what they wanted and it didn't seem forced or out of character. It just seemed right.
And the relationship between Betty and Daniel! Now, it didn't take long for me to want them together as a couple. (This shipping thing that people speak of. It's a blessing and a curse sometimes.) I was really satisfied with how everything played out. I didn't want them together while Betty still worked at Mode. I always found it a little sketch when a character becomes interested in his or her boss. It's not that I think they're doing it for the wrong reason. I just think that it brings on a level of drama, which we saw with Betty and Matt. Plus, people will always think that you're getting special treatment even if you aren't. So I'm glad that they didn't just put them together early on. Neither of them realized that they had feelings for each other, too. I'd rather see that being mentioned to them genuinely, not as a joke, and them start to figure it all out than them immediately in a relationship. I'm not going to lie, though. There were some pretty frustrating moments, but overall I'm happy with what happened in the end.

Ugly Betty is a show that was ahead of it's time and has the qualities that we are desperately seeking in the shows of today.  So if you are looking for a show that actually represents what the world looks like and has great acting and writing, check this one out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Stranger Things (Netflix)

Stranger Things takes place in a small town in the 80's. Will Byers goes missing and immediately after that a girl (Eleven/El) appears in town. So the search is on to find Will. His 3 friends (Lucas, Mike and Dustin), mom and brother are the only people who believe that Will's out there, somewhere, alive.
If you like mystery/sci-fi/adventure/government conspiracy cover up/secret lab testing on humans/other universe type shows, this one's for you. I'm definitely attracted to those types of shows, so I loved it! The acting was so good and the kids did a fantastic job. I am definitely a fan and hope that it gets picked up for a second season. If it does, I have a few predictions and questions that can be explored next season.

This is NOT a spoiler free zone so finish watching before reading this section.
  1. I'm pretty sure Eleven is coming back - The chief was bringing food to an area in the woods for her. The box was empty so this was either; his first time doing this or El was taking the food. Also, when she defeated the monster she just disappeared. I think that she either got sucked into the upside down or became the monster.
  2. Will we find out about the other people that have been experimented on - There were 10 others before this and the lab hasn't been shut down. So will these people come out and if so, do they have abilities, too? Will there be a 12?
  3. Is Will turning into a monster - He did spit up a slug and it seems like this has happened before. So is he becoming another monster or is this just a side effect of the upside down? Also, that flash of the upside down that we saw; was that his PTSD? Is he breaking down the barier between his world and the upside down?
  4. The campaign the boys were playing at the end had some clues for next season in it - There was a new monster and Will defeats it and the other boys help bring the monster to the king. My guess is that another monster is coming from the upside down and Will is the only one that can defeat it. That monster could be El. Who's the king? Well it has to be someone of power and I don't think this person believes that the upside down exist. So maybe next season expand outside of this small town. The boys have to bring proof of existence (the head) to this person.
So those are my questions and predictions. What do you guys think will happen if there's a season 2? Let me know.

It's been TOO long! But, I"M BACK!!

It's been over a month since I last talked to you and that's too long of time, but I'm back! (Please yell at me if I ever stop talking to you for this long of a time again) I'm here to tell you what you can expect in the near future.

First, I've watched the first season of Stranger Things (Netflix) and I plan on writing a review for that. I haven't decided if I want to rewatch the season (since it's only 8 episodes) before I do the review or not. Keep a look out for that later this week or next week.
Second, I've been rewatching Ugly Betty and plan to write about that once I finish the series. I watched it when came out, but I'm pretty sure I stopped watching after season 2 because I'm in season 3 now and nothing is familiar. Look out for that post later this month.
Third, I really want to get back into reviewing movies. (I haven't been to the movies all summer! I think I may need to start taking solo trips) The Little Prince just came out on Netflix and I plan on watching and reviewing that. Until I get to the movies I need you guys to suggest some movies for me to watch and review.
Lastly, fall shows will be back sooner than later. My TV watching schedule is going through some changes and I plan on updating you on what I plan on watching come fall 2016. Some of the major posts I will do is:

  • Returning and new show updates: I'll tell you what I'll definitely be watching and any expectations/predictions, I'll let you know what shows I'm on the fence about, shows that I'm quitting and why.
  • First few review: For any new show I watch, I'll review it after watching the first 2 (or 3) episodes. If I'm immediately hooked I'll post sooner. If a show doesn't hook me after 2 episodes I'll give it one more and then I'll make my final decision.
  • Mid season updates: When my shows go on their winter hiatuses I'll update you on my thoughts on the season so far. As well as hopes and predictions for the back half of the season.
  • Finale Updates: When each season comes to a close I'll give on finale update on how I felt about the season as a whole and review the final episode.
If there are any updates you want me to do outside of these main posts let me know and I'll get a post out for you. Also, if there is any topic about the industry that you want my opinion on let me know and I'll post on that too. I've got 3 day a week that I post (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and I hope to have a post for each of these days each week.
I'm excited to be back it so make sure you keep a look out for new posts. Subscribe and/or follow me on twitter to stay in the loop.

Greenleaf

This show is about the Greenleaf family. The father is the pastor of his church and the rest of the family (children and in-laws) have different jobs in the church. This family also lives in the same house with extended family living in the area. There are a lot of characters to keep up with (at least for me anyways) so I'm going to break it down for you.

Bishop James and Lady Mae Greenleaf: The parents. Out of everyone, they seem less likely to be hiding a secret but I have a feel that won't last long. The mayor wants to investigate the church but James won't let that happen. We don't know why, but I'm sure the real reason will come out sooner or later.

Grace "GG" Greenleaf: Our entry point into the series. She's the prodigal daughter of the family. She has a daughter, Sophia (who's easily influenced by her cousin Zora). We don't know who Sophia's dad is, but I'm hoping he'll show up at some point this season. Gracewent from being a PK (pastor's kid) to a Chreaster (Christmas and Easter church goer), to pastor of the church. She left 20 years ago and returns for her sister's (Faith) funeral. Her main reason for staying in town is to investigate her sister's death.
I like Grace. She's immediately taken on as pastor of the church and clearly has a different way of doing things that other staff members aren't used to. She's going to shake some things up and I can't wait to see it.

Jacob and Kerissa Greenleaf: Jacob is James and Lady Mae's son. He and his wife have 2 kids; a daughter, Zora and a son. Zora fits the profile of a PK. She quotes Bible scriptures but sneaks off to smoke weed during the youth lock in.
This relationship is so interesting to me. Jacob is having an affair and Kerissa knows about it. I was expecting him to be controlling and mean, but he's not like that at all. He's the quiet on in the relationship and Kerissa is the controlling one. Their relationship is unpredictable which is frustrating, but I like it because I don't like being able to predict things.

Kevin and Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee: Charity is James and Lady Mae's daughter. No one take Charity serious as a preacher. She suggests a series of sermons to do and they family basically laughs at her. It's so interesting because no one thinks she can do it. They think she's better off teaching children's church and starting a family of her own.
Now on to Kevin; it's made obvious that he's gay. I'm sure the only reason he agrees to have a baby is to keep Charity busy, but he's not okay with it. There were some hints about his backstory mentioned that's got me intrigued. I want to know more about his life and how he met Charity. I also want to know if Charity knows that Kevin's gay.

Robert 'Mac' McCready: Lady Mae's brother. He's literally the creepy uncle. When Grace comes back her mother tells her not to start any trouble with him. In that moment I knew that he either did something to Grace or someone else. I'm not going to tell you what he did. You'll just have to watch to find out.

Mavis McCready: Lady Mae's sister. The cool aunt. She owns a bar in town and is helping Grace with her investigation.

What we have here is a family that keeps up appearances on the outside but has some serious issues going on. We also get to see what goes on behind the scenes with this church. No one in this family is perfect and this church isn't perfect either, but in reality, what is?
I was hooked after the first 10 minutes so I'll be watching each week. I find it so interesting and I can't wait to see Grace uncover everything about Faith, and I can't wait to see what happens when all their secrets come out because they will come out eventually.

Orange in the New Black: Season 4

In previous seasons this show would have a time for jokes, then there would be a moment when things got real, and after that they would end with a cliffhanger leaving us wanting more. And all through this they would sprinkle in some really important issues that would make us think. This season they didn't waste any time getting real and took the issue of race head on.

The Good
As tough as it is to take on the issue of race, they were able to give us some laughs. My other favorite parts were the backstories of Suzanne and Blanca. I wanted more on Suzanne's backstory and finally got to see some of it. We new nothing about Blanca and were finally able to see what life was like for her before she was in prison.

The Bad
Piper, Piper, Piper. I'm one of many who just doesn't like her. I'm not interested in her story. This season I noticed a parallel with Gloria and Piper. Both of them had a beef with another inmate (Sophia and Ruiz) and got that person in more trouble (Sophia was sent to the SHU; Ruiz got more prison time). The difference is that Gloria felt guilty and did what she could to fix it. Piper really only thought of herself. Thankfully, she realized what she did was wrong but she never talked to Ruiz to try and apologize and she didn't try to talk to the racist inmates after she basically formed a racist gang. One thing that always bothers me about Piper is that she always thinks of herself and how other people's actions affect her and not how her actions affect other people.

The Ugly
The new CO's were awful! I didn't think they could get any worse than Pornstache but they go so much worse. I just don't understand why they had to be such disgustingly awful human beings! I get that they did it to prove a point. There are people like this who work in law enforcement and they shouldn't. But, these characters were never punished for their actions. A good scolding from Caputo wasn't enough. These people should have been fired, especially Piscatella.
Poussey's death was the hardest, most painful character death I've ever experienced. I don't think I've cried that much over a character, ever! I guess you could say that she got a proper send off with the flashbacks but that didn't make is hurt any less. In fact, it actually made me feel worse. It was super hard for me because all I could think of was the video of the young girl from Texas, who was sat on by a cop after she left a pool party. Or the fact that Poussey said she couldn't breathe which were also the last words of Eric Garner. I really thought that Caputo would tell the media truth, but he didn't and I'm going to talk about that later. I also read and article (here), and the vibe I got from that was that they chose to kill her for shock value. That rubs me the wrong way.

I'm on the fence with the show at this point. I wish that they took a similar route that Scandal took with the episode 'The Lawn Chair.' That episode dealt with racism within law enforcement but left us with a feeling of hope at the end because the officer was punished for what he did. I understand that this show wanted to be realistic, but I think it's possible to do that as well as give the viewers hope.
Two things I want to mention. One, a picture of the writers room came out (here), and there wasn't a single Black person, man or woman. I just don't understand how you can write a show with the main theme of the season being race issues between Black and white people, and not have one Black person on the writing staff. How can you tell a story about racism without the input of Black people?! Seeing that picture, I now understand how some things were allowed. The Black community's voice was not heard and I think that's a real shame.
Second, Poussey is a lesbian character and TV shows have a problem with killing LGBT characters. It happens so often that people expect it or are worried that it's going to happen. If it doesn't happen then it's a huge deal and people are breathing a sigh of relief. This show decided to add one more to that body count. If they were trying to kill of a character to get a huge emotional response from the fans, there's a long list of other characters that they could've chosen.
Lastly, I just want to say that I wished the show didn't end the way it did. I predicted that a mutiny would happen, I just wished that the protest would've worked. I wished that Caputo would've remembered that he had morals and went against the MCC by telling the truth and not by covering for Bayley. I wished that they didn't choose Daya (one the sweetest inmates) to be the one pointing a gun at the CO. I wished that they didn't spend 4 seasons telling us that these inmates are more than just criminals, but actually people just like us, and then reduce them to just criminals in the final moments of this season.
So, I'll be cautiously approaching season 5. I think I'm going to wait and see what people are saying about it before I decide to watch.

Thought? Please share.

Diversity in Television: Quality is Better than Quantity, Part 2

In part one of this two part series I talked about why I'll only be celebrating the quality, not just the quantity of diversity in television. I know some of yall were wondering how we can do what I stated. I firmly believe that it starts behind the scenes. We need more diversity producers, writers, directors, DP's, etc. You can't just be willing to cast POC, women, etc in front of the camera, but behind it as well. This is how we create quality work. If these characters are not written well, their portrayal can do just as much harm as not casting them at all.

Once the behind the scenes of a show looks like the world we live in, then our shows will look like that as well. We need writers to tell our stories. We need directors to shape our stories for us. We need camera people to show our stories through our eyes. We need people who will think outside of the box and will cast POC, women and other minorities in roles that were originated for white men. We need people who are willing to give chances to those who want to make television that looks like our world.

In an interview, director Ryan Coogler talked about how important it was for him to have diversity on his crew. He spoke specifically about his DP for the film 'Creed.' He said that she saw things in ways that he didn't and came up with ideas that he never thought of. How else would this happen if he went with the norm?

So this is basically me encouraging those who want to get into this industry, whether in front of the camera, behind it, or both, to go for it. And for those already there, make room and opportunity for us to come in and make our presence known. Let us continue to make this industry better than it was years before.

Diversity in Television: Quality is Better than Quantity, Part 1

**Disclaimer: When talking about TV I'm not including shows from Netflix or Amazon and similar streaming platforms.**

I remember in the beginning of 2015 year making a post about all the Black women that would be on TV shows that year. I also remember getting more excited at the beginning of this year's TV season with the new POC additions to that list. Unfortunately, at the end of this season my excitement had worn off and turned into anger and confusion. Anger and confusion because I had witnessed a favorite character of mine get killed of unnecessarily and, not too far after, reading about other women and POC characters (some leads) getting the ax from their shows. Doing more digging to find out about these characters getting sidelined and their screentime diminishing before their departure.
Ever since the premiere of Scandal in 2012(?) we've seen a rise in not only Black women but WOC and POC as leading roles on TV. It was such an exciting time because people were finally being represented in television. After years and years of not being represented or being represented properly, it was finally happening. It's a real shame that the theme this year was to get rid of those characters! After the events of this year, when it comes to diversity in TV I'll only be advocating for quality over quantity.

I am completely fed up with seeing and hearing about minority and women characters being treated horribly. It's frustrating when you watch a show with a Black woman as the lead character and then wake up the next morning to read an article that reduced her to a sidekick. It's frustrating to see these WOC characters having their storylines pushed aside so the white (and/or male) character can be elevated. It's frustrating to see a character's screentime shrink and shrink for no reason. And then they get killed off in a way that is so disrespectful to the character and the fans.
I am also saddened by this because a character is never just a character. When we see WOC/POC characters as leads or part of a show and they're not just stereotypes is a big deal! It matters when we see ourselves as what we actually are in society and not these horrible stereotypes that people reduce us to. So it literally hurts when we see these characters get neglected and killed off. It's like someone in your family or your closest friend dying, or constantly being told that they don't matter.
So, I want to say that these characters are not these replaceable, disposable people only there to promote the white and/or male characters. They aren't stereotypes or tokens!

Moving forward I will no longer celebrate the number of POC, women, etc characters. I will only celebrate when these characters are treated the they should be. If you're wondering how we can make this happen, don't worry. I will be coming out with a part 2 on that topic.

Please sound off in the comments section on who your favorite characters are and why they mean so much to you.

Rosewood Finale Update

For such a bright show, Rosewood had a heartbreaking finale. Rosie and Villa had a big blow up, Pippy and TMI broke up and Mama Rosie is off visiting her "boyfriend" (who is he really) in jail. I understand why this was done. This is a new show and they really needed to shake things up for the next season. Go big or go home, right? Good thing I'm used to shows ripping out my heart and stomping on it, otherwise I'd be a mess.

This was a solid first season. I can honestly say that this show was the bright spot to my week. I never thought that a crime drama would have me laughing and leave me smiling each week, but this show did. That's the thing that sets this show apart from others in the genre. Somehow it found a way to keep things light but was also able to keep me on the edge of my seat. It brings the intensity but is able to balance it out with humor. This is a unique show and that's one of the reasons why I love it.
This cast works so well together and has such great chemistry. I also love the diversity of the show, not only in front of the camera but behind it as well.

I think this show did a great job in setting up what's to come for next season. So many things are changing in the lives of the characters so they could go in many directions. Hornstock might not be coming back as captain so there's an opportunity to bring in a new character to take his job. Mama Rosie has a secret of her own and I wonder how long she can keep it. I wonder if TMI will have her own separate storyline now that she and Pippy broke up. Pippy quit so she may pursue singing now, and I wonder if Cassie will make a return. Villa doesn't want Rosie in her life but that's not going to happen now that Rosie thinks Villa's husband was murdered. He's a persistent guy and I don't think he will rest until this case is solved. That case will definitely a major part of next season. I just wonder how Villa will eventually come around to helping him. She is a conflict of interest so all of this will have to be a side investigation.
Here's to hoping this show avoids the sophomore slump because it's unique and necessary for TV and I would love for it to be around for many years.
