Scandal - Ride Sally Ride

The wait was long, too long, but Scandal is finally back. The entire episode was explosive and I basically sat there saying 'what' the entire time. I'm so happy to be back reviewing this amazing show with you. So, with further ado, let's get started.
Sally, Leo, and Rowan!?
(That's right, I said Rowan) Sally is still running for president and she's also not going to step down as VP! We all knew that she was going to run, but to not step down, what was she thinking?! She's going to be around a bunch of people who clearly hate her and don't want her around. Why would she do that to herself? And Leo and his annoying self is getting real comfortable in the White House just hanging out in Cyrus' office whenever he wants. That man is annoying!
Let's talk this Rowan mess. He's not command anymore so he's basically going to whatever he can to take down Fitz. He'll even go as far as assassinating him! Yup, he told Olivia to "start grieving" because the White House is a ticking time bomb that will blow up in just a matter of time. So, he's going to work with Leo to help Sally crush Fitz in the election. So now it's daddy versus daughter and I wonder who's going to win.

Harrison
He is crapping his pants over the fact that Adnan Salif is back in the country. If you keep up with all the spoiler details then you knew that with the recent cast additions Adnan is a woman. Which now makes all the sense because she and Harrison "got a thang going on." I can not wait until all this juicy drama is dished out. I just wish they would hurry up and tell us because these little snippets are just not cutting it. I need more Harrison and I need it now. We've waited long enough so let's get it going!

Quinn
This girl is seriously suffering from an identity crisis. Jake won't allow her in B613 (for reasons) and Huck told her she's not a gladiator anymore so what is she to do? Well, she's decide to start kidnapping children. She's still doing side jobs with Charlie and they needed to clean up some mess with the Daniel Douglass murder which included them kidnapping a kid! There is nothing this girl won't do to be accepted by someone. But it's kind of sad because you can tell she really misses OPA. Whether she ever gets back in with them, that's just something we have to wait and see.

James and David
These two have teamed up again this time to expose Sally for killing her husband and Cyrus for covering it up. It's going to be defiance all over again but this time James actually has an in. He just needs to watch his back and stop doing reckless things like sending secret messages to reporters.

Olivia&Fitz, Mellie&Andrew Nichols
Now that Sally is running, Fitz has to find a new running mate and he chose his old friend and Lt. Governor Andrew Nichols. No one thinks he's right for the job, but Fitz is going to do what Fitz wants to do. He's back to drinking, he's mean and he's not listening to anyone including Olivia. All this makes me wonder if this is part of some greater plan. Remember in 301 when Fitz told Sally to jump through the window he was opening for her, and all that talk about starting war with Mellie? Here's what I'm thinking: Fitz either wants to win by doing what he wants unlike the last election when he just did what he was told. Or he's trying to sabotage it all because he can't get divorced as president and he wants to make the Vermont dream a reality.
Again, if you kept up with all the news during the hiatus you knew that Mellie was going to have a little affair. I just wasn't expecting it to be the new running mate, but when he started talking about why he never married, I knew that girl that got away was Mellie. I just can't wait for all the hypocritical mess that Olitz will spit out because of it. You know they're going to be pissed about it.
Also, Olivia now has to fake date Jake so people stop accusing her of having an affair with Fitz. You know, I think Jake should just quit, go away and find someone he actually has a shot with. Olivia has made it pretty clear that they'll never really be together so he needs to just stop going back to her.

This was a great episode. Shout out to the writers, hair, and wardrobe for always killing it. And shout out to Joe Morton for that EPIC monologue! One random question: does anyone find this show kind of funny the 2nd time around? Some of the stuff they do makes me chuckle and I want to know if I'm the only one.

Spring Premieres 2014

All of the shows, new and returning, I'll be watching that premiere this spring. Of course, I will continue to watch all the other shows that are still on and there will be reviews on all the new shows. The picture included in this post is my posts schedule as of now. I'm always taking suggestions for TV shows and movies if you have any.

Monday
Bates Motel: March 3rd, A&E, 9pm
The Boondocks: April 21st, Adult Swim, 10:30pm - I've been waiting so long for this show to come back and it finally has!
Hit the Floor: May 26th, VH1, 9pm

Tuesday
The Mindy Project: April 1st, FOX, 9pm/9:30pm(April 8th and on) - I finally got more comedy in my life. When there was nothing on during the winter I binged watched this show and fell in love with it. It's hilarious and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Wednesday
The 100/The Hundred: March 19th, CW, 9pm - This show is about 100 teens sent back to a destroyed Earth in hopes of re-populating it. I'll admit, I can't get enough of Sci-Fi.
The Soul Man: March 26th, TV Land, 10:30pm

Thursday
The Black Box: April 24th, ABC, 10pm - This is what they've chosen to put in place of Scandal, so of course I'll be checking it out. It's about a neuroscientist that also has a mental illness and keeping it a secret.

Saturday
Orphan Black: April 16th, BBC America, 9pm - I also watched this during the winter to see what the hype was all about and I get it. This show is amazing! Everyone should check it out.

Sunday (I don't usually watch shows on Sunday but since there's no football I'll give it a shot)
Resurrection: March 9th, ABC, 9pm - Some how people who where dead come back to life. Reminds me of The 4400, which I loved so I'll definitely be checking this out.
Crisis: March 16th, NBC, 10pm - On his 1st day on the job a secret service agent gets in the middle of a serious crisis (hence the name). Seems interesting and I love my crime dramas.

And that's what I'll be watching this spring. What will you be watching?

Glee - Frenemies

Glee is finally back! The theme of this week's episode was frenemies. Rachel & Santana, Kurt & Starchild, and Tina & Artie all became frenemies this week. Here's what went down.
Rachel has officially gotten a big head. She thinks she is the biggest star in the world because of her Funny Girl role. Someone seriously needed to slap her because she is out of control! She completely lost it when Santana tried out for her understudy and sang 'Don't rain On My Parade.' I friggin loved it! She tore that song up. I think it was my favorite performance of the night. Then they got in this huge fight and Rachel ended up slapping Santana. In that moment I felt like I was watching that Sharkeisha video! I was like "no Rachel NO!" But seriously, it was crazy and in the end Rachel ended up moving out!
Now Kurt was losing it because he thought Starchild was trying to take over his band. So he decided to "keep [his] friends close and [his] enemies closer" and spent all his free time with Starchild. Kurt needed to chill out because Starchild wasn't even trying to take over the band. Luckily he found this out and I think they're going to be just friends now. But, Klaine might be on the rocks because of a picture of Starchild kissing Kurt (on the cheek). Also, if I was ever skeptical of adding Adam Lambert to the cast I'm not anymore. 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' was epic!
And last but not least, the Artie and Tina drama. They are both competing to be the valedictorian and Tina thinks it should be her. They are also competing for a solo at Nationals and there was no other way to do it than with a sing off. They sang 'My Lovin (You're Never Gonna Get It)' and I just couldn't take it. Every time I hear that song I immediately thing if this from 'Sister, Sister' http://youtu.be/sF6l2sBK3YE?t=51s. And when Artie fell, super awkward. I just sat there in shock! But they got over their beef and ended up becoming the salutatorian because Sue couldn't have them both be the valedictorian. The episode ended with one of my favorite songs, 'Breakaway.'
Overall I thought this was a great episode to come back to. There was lots of great drama and great songs to sing along to. Can't wait to see what's in store next week.

Switched at Birth - Memory Is Your Image of Perfection

This episode was intense! Where do I even begin? Let me start with Daphne.
I think that Daphne is the sweetest person on the show. It's crazy that she's the one that's on probation. She's still doing all she can to help Sharee. This time she arranges for Sharee and her mom to come in and talk to a doctor. It never went as planned. The doctor came late and Daphne's boss was forced to stall. This lead to disaster and by disaster I mean a stabbing! That's right, Sharee's mom stabbed Daphne's boss and Daphne was the only one there to help him. This was one of the most intense moments of the night because Daphne had to stab him with a needle to help him breathe but she couldn't do it, at first. Luckily she mustered up all the courage she could and saved his life. Maybe he will think differently of her after this experience. And as for Sharee's mom, she's facing jail time and Sharee is kind of an orphan now!
Regina is facing another problem with her job with Wes. Her mother thinks he's using her because she's from the neighborhood his wants to build in. Now my question is why is she still working for this jerk?! This guy has fired her, hired her, and blown up in her face many times and she still is working for him. That might all change because she wants out, but we shall see.
We finally saw Travis and Mary Beth together this episode. They're cute, I like them together. Melody was trying to get herself some good lovin' in this episode. An old friend came to the school for career week and now they will be going on a date. I just wonder how it will all span out and what Emmett will think of it.
Okay, let's get to the big moments in this episode: John and Kathryn. First off, John is clueless or in denial or something. For some reason he thinks Kathryn's over reacting. He also thinks that Toby would enjoy him being there and that it's going to be fun. And then he thought it was okay for him to eat some outrageous breakfast that would give him another heart attack! Can he please come back to reality?! Now Bay didn't know John moved out and when she found out she, of course, had a plan to get them together. Well that plan was disaster, too. At first I thought the plan was Bay's fingers not moving but that was real!! In the middle of J&K fighting, Bay's injured hand gave her more problems and now she has to get surgery. AND, she won't be able to use her hand for a couple months. So what is Bay the artist going to do now?
Overall this was a great episode. So much craziness happened and who knows what will happen next, but here's what I think. Daphne probably wants Sharee to come live with her but with everything going on that probably won't happen. Bay will either get really depressed about not being able to do art or she'll find something else that she's good at and do it. Or she'll become ambidextrous! It looks like J&K are on the road to divorce. They will be separated for a while and I don't know if we'll see them back together at the end of this season.
This episode was pretty sad and by the end I had tears in my eyes. Luckily the dance episode is next week and we get a break from all the crazy drama! So tell me, what did ya'll think about the episode?

Nebraska

Woody Grant (Bruce Dern) thinks that he's won 1 million dollars and is determined to go to Lincoln, Nebraska to collect his winnings. After many attempts to go on his own (from Montana) his son David (Will Forte) decides to drive him there. This film is about this journey which mainly takes place in a small town in Nebraska where Woody grew up.
I enjoyed this film. I thought it was entertaining and surprisingly funny. I found myself able to relate to David because I have older people in my life (grandparents) that are like Woody. I know how they are when they get their minds set on something and they don't want to do anything else, and go on and on until they get what they want. I can really sympathize. There was also a scene where Woody and his brothers were all together and hoe similar they act. It reminded me of what it's like when my grandmother and her siblings get together.
All in all I would say that this is a good movie. It shines a light on dementia and what life is like for the person dealing with all of that and the family members, and it does it in a way that I haven't seen before. I also loved the fact that it was shot in black and white. It fit so perfectly with the simplicity of the film and story line. I recommend this film. I think y'all will like it, and the ending is one of the sweetest things.

The Wolf of Wall Street

This movie is about the career life of stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). It's based on a true story.
Now first off I had no idea this was based on a true story. How many movies nominated for Best Picture are based on a true story?! My goodness! Now on to the movie. The story of Jordan Belfort is actually pretty sad. You'll understand what I mean when you get to the end of the film. I'm not going to say anymore because I don't want to be a spoiler.
Now I have to get really honest with y'all. This is not my kind of movie. I'm not swaying it was completely awful, what I'm saying is that this just isn't the type of movie I would watch. If it wasn't for this review I probably would've stopped watching it. Putting that aside I will say that this movie wasn't bad. It did a good job of telling the story and the acting was really good.
I'm not going to tell you whether or not you should see this because I know there are people that don't feel the same as me. I will tell you this. There is a lot of language, sex, and nudity so if you don't like that don't go see this movie. It's also 3 hours long, so if you do go see it get ready to be sitting for that long. As long as you have some snacks I think you'll be okay.

Captain Phillips

This is the story of Captain Richard Phillips (Toms Hanks) and his crew when Somalian pirate hijackers attacked their ship. This film is based on the true events that took place in 2009.
I can't even begin to tell you how extraordinary this film is. I was literally left speechless and almost crying when it was over. I sat for about 10 minutes before I could even think about doing this review. From the time the pirates were spotted it was nonstop intensity and it keeps you engaged until the credits roll.
Tom Hanks' performance was just amazing. I can't believe he didn't get an Oscar nomination for this. I really think he deserved it. And Barkhad Abdi, I mean wow!
I can't even say anything else other than that this was a great movie. It's made it to my list of top films of 2013. Yes, I think everyone should see this and I'm glad it got a best picture Oscar nomination. My pieces of advice: deep breathes after you've finished it and go watch a comedy or children's movie afterwards. Also find someone to cry with and/or hug if needed.

Switched at Birth - The Scream

Dirty little secrets always come out and that's exactly what happen in this episode. Let's start with Daphne's drama.
Campbell now knows that Daphne is seeing Jorge and he's not at all happy about it. But, his 21st birthday is coming up and Daphne is determined to help him not spend it alone, so she plans a surprise party for him. I get that that's her friend and she wants to do something nice for him but she forgot that Jorge is the guy she's seeing and not Campbell, and it was uncomfortable for him to see her put all her attention on Campbell. Because of this Jorge is forced to question if Daphne has feelings for Campbell and she tells him she does. So now she has a decision to make and I'm hoping she chooses Jorge. I just didn't like how Campbell didn't tell her about his girlfriend and Jorge's really sweet. He's even learning to sign! But, we shall see.
Now on to the drama party. Renzo and Kathryn are throwing a party for the whole family to celebrate her book deal. (And yes, Jenice is included when I say family!) Renzo took it upon himself to make it a murder mystery party (which is so cool) and so everyone had to search around the house for clues and this is when the trouble starts. First, John finds the draft to Kathryn's book which he knew very little about and get's in it with her over that. Then Regina confronts Jenice about the kiss and Jenice tells John Regina knows while Kathryn is listening in the shadows! And then Kathryn kicked everyone out but not before Jenice and John come clean about it all! Craziness, right?! This whole party was just one big awkward mess and the worse part is that John has to stay at Toby's because he can't get caught checking into a hotel since he's a senator. Hot mess! That's not all though.
Bay now sees Tank as a boyfriend so she tries to get him to invite her to some frat party he's having that Mary Beth got invited to but he wouldn't let it happen. I knew that there was some kind of horrible contest thing happening at that party but I didn't know it was an ugly contest! That's just awful and sad. Glad Bay told Mary Beth the truth and that Tank did something to shut it down. In the end, Bay and Tank are now a thing. I know John's going to be really happy about that seeing as Tank is one of his fans!
So overall, I thought this episode was great! It just keeps getting better and more dramatic. I loved how Bay and Regina can bond over their injuries. And, I love Renzo. I know I say that a lot but he's great. I'm actually really loving all their new additions this season. This season is just awesome in general. I don't think I've anticipated this show this much and I LIVE off the sneak peeks during the week. Great job ABC Family. I can NOT wait until next Monday! I just have one question: where's Angelo?

Gravity

Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is medical engineer who is on a mission in space when a satellite accident leaves her alone, drifting in space. She is left to figure out how to get home, with some help from Matt Kowalski (George Clooney), an astronaut she was working with.
Now, it probably wasn't too great of an idea for me to watch this movie because one of my worst nightmares is to be stranded in space. Ever since that episode of Family Matters when Steve went in space, all that stuff left me very uneasy. So this film brought out a lot of anxiety for me. But, with that aside, I did like it. Yes, the special effects were amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if it won all those Oscars in that category. With a film like this, it's expected that the special effects will be amazing so I try not to focus on that. So with that in mind my favorite thing about the film is the score. I thought it was absolutely amazing and at this point I'm rooting for this film to win the Oscar for best original score. And I can't leave out the great performance that Sandra Bullock gave.
So yes, I do think it deserves its Oscar nomination for best picture and I recommend everyone see it, even though it might make you never want to go into space.

Philomena

Philomena Lee (Judi Dench) is woman who finally admits that she had a baby at a young age who was taken from her by the nuns at the convent where she stayed. This film is about her journey to find her son with former journalist Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan). Philomena's daughter was the one who got Martin to do a story in the situation.
I loved this film. It made me laugh, made me cry and made me angry. The thing that really got me was the story about Philomena's son. There were so many twist and turns that I couldn't predict a thing, not that I thought I could. I mean, it's based on a true story and real life a bit harder to predict than some made up story. It's such an interesting story that really makes you think. So, here we have another movie that not only entertains but informs in a great way. I recommend this film to everyone.
I must say that the more of these films that I watch the harder it is for me to predict which one will win the Oscar, and I'm happy about that. I'd rather see many films worthy of the Oscar than a bunch among one that is the obvious winner. I can't wait for the show so I can finally relieve my anticipation.

Her

From the little synopsis on IMDB I thought that this was going to be some lame movie about a guy falling in love with a Siri like thing. I did think it would be that great of a movie and I heard many people talk about how bad it was. But, I was surprised.
I'm guessing this movie takes place in the future because of the technology although everyone looked like they were from the past based on their clothing. Everyone had these Bluetooth like things in there ear that read them their e-mails and things like that. Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) is a writer. He writes letters for people to other people, which is so weird. This new Operating System (OS) comes out and he gets it and ends up falling in love with it.
I first thought of 'Lars and the Real Girl' while watching, but everyone was okay with him dating his OS and he didn't have any problems interacting with other people. I also thought this would be some movie about how technology is hurting our F2F (face to face) relationships, but it wasn't. This was just your regular romance drama but instead of it being with 2 people it was between a person and a computer. And I know it seems really ridiculous, but their relationship was honest and real, just like any F2F relationship. I feel so weird saying that because I wasn't expecting it.
So I think yall should check this movie out, it might surprise you. And yes I do get why it was nominated for an Oscar. It's different and I give credit to any actor that can give a good performance when the physical thing isn't right in front of them.

Switched at Birth - Have You Really the Courage

They are really stating to bring on the drama and I love it!
Bay finds herself in an awkward situation this week. Daphne points out to Bay that Tank likes her but Bay doesn't like him that way. So for most of the episode Bay was avoiding telling him the truth. Personally, I didn't want her to tell him because I thought it would get awkward but it never really got to that point. When she finally told him she tripped and fell and cut her hand on a beer bottle. Luckily Tank was there to save the day. Thank goodness it was just her hand that was injured. Last week I said the worst that could happen would be amnesia, but I didn't really want to deal with that. I just want to say that Tank is the sweetest guy ever and he even signed when he met Daphne. If Bay were to get with anyone I'd want it to be him.
Daphne got a glimpse of Sharee's home life in this episode and it's not good. Sharee's mom is mentally sick and Sharee has to deal with it all on her own. Regina and Daphne found themselves in the middle of it all and are now forced to help. I don't think Sharee will be too happy with Daphne for butting in but hopefully things will get better.
Toby now has to deal with the fact that Nikki might not be coming home as soon as he thought. See, Nikki was asked to stay oversees for another 6 months and she told Toby nothing about it. I really didn't want them to have problems but it's looking like they will. I just hope she comes back and they stay married.
And now on to Kathryn and John. I think the perfect thing to say is "when the cat's away the mice will play" and boy did the mice play! Kathryn is partying it up in New York, getting hit on by girls and gossiping about baseball players, while John is hanging out with Jenice and ends up kissing her! They are both a hot mess. The whole time John was with Jenice I was screaming at the TV for them to get away from each other, but they didn't listen. The kicker is that Regina saw and now has to tell on him. And John is not going to like Kathryn's book idea but I don't think his opinion will matter much after she finds out what he did.
Overall this was the most dramatic episode so far. I'm surprised that most of the drama is happening between the adults and not the kids. It's just going to get even crazier next week and I can't wait. My only hope is that they don't leave all the juicy stuff until the last five minutes like they did this week. The pot is definitely boiling over and I think next week it just might explode!

Dallas Buyers Club

This movie is about a regular guy whose life completely changes when he finds out he has HIV.
Ron Woodroof was just regular dude who smoked, drank, did drugs, and had as much sex as he wanted. According to him, he was probably living the life, but that all changed when a work accident sent to the hospital and he found out he had HIV. At first, he didn't take it well but things changed once he started doing research on the disease and it's treatment. He then decided that he was going to do what he could to get the right treatment for himself and others in his situation.
Overall I think this was a good film and I do think it deserves it's Oscar nomination. Matthew McConaughey (Ron) and Jared Leto (Rayon) gave great performances. My little problem with it was that it seemed to drag on a bit, but I didn't think it was entirely boring. It was just that when it got close to the end I started wondering when it would be over, and it was almost the end so I didn't get irritated.
My main reason why I recommend this film is because it makes you think about the FDA and the drugs that they prescribe to people and whether or not they help get better. I really like it when films do more then entertain and actually make you think about the stuff that's going on in our lives and country. So for that, I think that you should check this movie.

Switched at Birth - It Hurts to Wait With Love If Love Is Somewhere Else

Well, well, well. These girls and their boy problems, John and his motorcycle, Regina and Angelo and their money problems. Oh my goodness.
So Daphne's got herself in a bit of a love triangle and now I'm wondering who's she going to choose. I hope it's Jorge. From the moment she met him I thought they would end up together and now they are, but Campbell is free now so what's a girl to do. I like Campbell but he should have gotten his life together before he made a move on Daphne. I can't even predict what happens next with these three. All I can say is that Daphne will have a choice to make and no one will be happy with whatever she chooses.
Now Bay is a hot mess. All this back and forth with Emmett is starting to get annoying. I don't know how many times I've said this but I think that she should take a break from boys for a little while. Or maybe she should stop getting with boys she's already been with. She needs to find someone new. I think Hank is a nice choice. He's such a sweet guy and a great friend. I think he likes her and Bay already tells him everything so they could be a nice couple. We shall see.
John is definitely going through a midlife crisis. Buying a motorcycle so he can have an outlet like Kathryn's dancing was not a goo idea. And now he's not going to run for senator again, which is kind of sad. I thought that was going to be his new thing, but I guess not. I just wonder what he'll do to fill that extra time he'll have.
Angelo and Regina are going through! They have some serious money problems, which I saw coming. It was a matter of time before that money dried up. I just hope that they can get through this. I was so happy when Angelo set that girl straight. She needed it. What Regina's going through with Wes always seems good and then bomb gets dropped. First he acted like a jerk and now he wants to get rid of the mom and pop shops in her old neighborhood. So now we're forced to ask (again) is she still going to work for him after this?
Overall this was a good episode. The pot is definitely boiling and next week it will boil over and explode! I mean John is about to screw up his entire family. I have never been more shocked by a promo! My prediction is that all hell will break loose. And I don't know what's going to happen with Bay and that whole falling thing. My guess: Amnesia. I think what I really want to know is why she fell and where she is. All I know is I will be living of the sneak peeks until next week. What do y'all think is happen next week?

American Hustle

American Hustle (2013) PosterAm I the only one that didn't like this movie? I have to be absolutely honest will y'all. I watched this movie because of the hype and the awards it won and got nominated for. But after watching it I have to say that I don't get it. I didn't think it was that great and I don't think the hype ruined it.
The problems started when I got half way through and thought it was almost over but it wasn't. Then it just went on and on and I just wanted it to be over, but there was so much more left, but I finished it. And, I knew it was going to end the way it did and we all know I hate predicting things! I'm really sorry to those who liked it but this is how I feel. I will say that I think the acting wasn't bad at all. I just don't think it came together overall.
In the end I have to say that it wasn't the best. It was a little boring and I don't think it should win the Oscar for best film. Do I recommend this movie, no. But watch it if you want, I won't yell at you for it. I'm hoping the other films nominated are much much better because I'm trying to watch them all before the show.
Please let me know if you feel the same way or not. I'd really like to know.
